Throughout my professional life, I have been interested in the relationship between teachers and curriculum. As someone who has taught languages, educated teachers, developed curriculum materials, puzzled by separation of teaching. In US, this is encapsulated phrase ‘curriculum instruction’, where they are seen as separate domains research responsibility (Doyle, 1992; Kaplan & Owings, 2015). Indeed, a teacher educator, would often hear refrain from ‘I know how to plan good lesson, but I'm not sure what big picture is.
